Donate A Horse
Donations to HART are tax-deductible to the extent allowable by law. Equine donors may request a letter of acknowledgement stating the horse was donated to a 501(c)3 public charity. A CPA should be consulted for the value of donation.
Thank you for considering Hope After Racing Thoroughbreds for your horse’s aftercare program. HART’s mission is to provide a temporary home for thoroughbreds from Prairie Meadows while they are being rehabilitated and receiving retraining prior to being adopted into a permanent home. As such, many horses come into the program requiring surgery and extensive time off. We rely heavily on donations to fund the care of the horses in our program. Each horse will be evaluated by a member of our Intake Committee to determine the amount of the donation required to accompany them for entry into the program. Many owners opt in to the ‘donation per start’ program, which contributes $10 per start directly to the HART program. Participating in this ‘Per Start’ program is not a requirement for a horse to be accepted into the program, however we have set up incentives for those who choose to participate as follows:
Participants of Per Start Program:
Depending on the condition of the horse and the estimated time off needed as well as the projected veterinary care and rehabilitation, donations in this range may be anywhere from $0 to $2,000.
Owners not participating in Per Start Program:
For owners who do not participate in the ‘Per Start’ Program, using the same criteria as listed above, we will ask for accompanying donations in the range of $500 - $3,000.
Once you complete the paperwork, HART will determine if we are able to bring the horse into the program and the required donation amount. Please know that space in our program is limited; preference will be given to horses expected to have a future as rideable partners in their next homes. Pasture or companion-only prospects may require an additional donation as they can take longer to place.
We truly appreciate your support! Without the continued backing of horsemen like yourself, we would not be able to carry out our mission — to date we have been able to successfully rehome more than 125 horses since our founding in 2011!
